Desierto de los Leones National Park is a national park located south of the city of Mexico and one of the best parks in Mexico city. The park features pristine and dense pine and oak forest and also the building of a Carmelite convent that dates back to the seventeenth century.
Popular activities in the park include day camping, hiking, mountain biking and overnight camping besides the site for a museum and musical concerts and horticultural fairs. There are restaurants and shops selling wood handicrafts while there is also a small river and service providers for recreational activities.
The five hundred hectares of the park are filled with cultural and artistic events, sporting events, spaces for exercise, food and popular Mexican celebrations. The park is one of the favourite places to go running or mountain trail racing and is a place of unique beauty in the cold woods of the valley of Mexico.
The forest has trees like fir, oak and also a trout and deer reserve called ‘los peteretes’ with a mystery and splendour hidden among rocks and flowers. The Carmelite convent is an idyllic place to visit tunnels and gardens and also explore some rich history in this uniquely beautiful and natural park.
